What is Optical Margin Alignment in InDesign
Do you like to have punctuation in your type? A lot of people do. You know, things like commas and quotation marks.

Well, if you want your edges to look smoother, with better alignment, you'll want to play with InDesign's Optical Margin Alignment. It's as hard to find as Jimmy Hoffa, but it's there. Once activated, you'll see your punctuation slide into the gutter slightly to compensate for what the eye sees as justified. You'll also see some letters, like a capital "T" slide out, as well.

I recommend you watch the video, apply it to some type and print it out. If you like the look, which I do, use it on a document and you'll be hooked.
