Viewing the World with a Keen Eye

The World's...um...Ferris Wheel | by Russell Viers
This is the world's oldest Ferris Wheel...or tallest...or roundest, I'm not really sure. I nabbed this just this week while in Vienna, Austria. If you put your face really close to your monitor, squint a bit and move your head around a bunch...it's just like a ride on the Riesenrad in Wiener Prater. In fact, I just did it and I'm now have a touch of motion sickness. True story. My wife's grandfather, who was a Prussian Jew, escaped Austria before the Nazis rolled in. According to her family, he used to ride this Ferris Wheel as a child. So I guess it's the oldest...built in 1897 to celebrate the golden jubilee of Franz Josef I.
